NFC Business Card Basics

Everything you need to know about the fundamentals of NFC business Cards.

How do NFC business cards work?

NFC technology works at close range (typically under 4cm), similar to contactless payment. When someone taps your Kinect Card against their phone, the chip communicates with the device and opens your Kinect profile — displaying your contact details, social links, website, and anything else you've added. The recipient can then save your details directly to their phone's contacts with one tap.

What is an NFC business card?

An NFC (Near Field Communication) business card is a physical card — the same size as a standard credit card — embedded with a tiny NFC chip. When tapped against a smartphone, the chip instantly opens your digital business card profile in the recipient's browser. No app required, no typing, no fuss. It's the modern replacement for paper business cards.

Do NFC business cards work on iPhones?

Yes. All iPhones from iPhone 7 onwards support NFC — and it's always on, so no settings need to be changed. Android devices also support NFC, though users may occasionally need to check that NFC is enabled in their settings. Every Kinect Card also has a QR code printed on the reverse as a backup, so anyone can access your profile regardless of their phone model.

Do you need an app to use an NFC business card?

No. Neither you nor the person you're networking with needs to download anything. When someone taps your Kinect Card, your profile opens instantly in their default web browser. It's completely frictionless.

What's the difference between an NFC business card and a digital business card?

A digital business card is stored in your Apple or Google Wallet. An NFC business card is the physical card that, when tapped, opens that digital profile.

At Kinect Card, you do both: a beautifully printed physical card or a bespoke apple wallet / android wallet business card.

What's the difference between NFC and QR codes?

Both can share your profile, but NFC is faster and more professional. A QR code requires the other person to open their camera, scan, and wait. NFC is a single tap — no scanning, no loading. That said, every Kinect Card includes a QR code on the reverse as a convenient backup option.

What's the difference between NFC and RFID?

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is used for longer-range scanning, such as warehouse stock management or building access control. NFC is a short-range, secure version of RFID designed specifically for device-to-device communication at close proximity — making it ideal for sharing contact information safely.

What are the benefits of an NFC Business Card?

Having a Kinect business card offers several benefits that can enhance your networking and business interactions. Here are some key advantages:

  1. Convenience and Ease of Sharing: Kinect business cards provide a seamless and hassle-free way to share your contact information and other digital content. Recipients can simply tap their NFC-enabled device or scan the QR code to access your details instantly, eliminating the need for manual input or physical card exchanges.
  2. Interactive and Engaging: With NFC technology, you can make your business card interactive and engaging. By linking your card to your website, address, social media profiles, or other digital content, you can provide recipients with a rich and dynamic experience, allowing them to explore your work, products, or services more easily.
  3. Professional Impression: NFC business cards showcase your tech-savviness and forward-thinking approach. By leveraging modern technology, you demonstrate that you stay up-to-date with digital trends, which can leave a positive and lasting impression on potential clients, partners, or employers.
  4. Versatility: NFC business cards can be customized to suit your branding and design preferences. You have the flexibility to incorporate your logo, colors, and other visual elements to create a professional and cohesive representation of your brand.
  5. Environmentally Friendly: By opting for digital NFC business cards, you contribute to reducing paper waste associated with traditional paper cards. This aligns with sustainable practices and demonstrates your commitment to environmental responsibility.
  6. Tracking and Analytics: Kinect  business card solutions offer tracking and analytics features. You can gain insights into how many times your card has been scanned, which actions were performed, and other valuable data. This information can help you evaluate the effectiveness of your networking efforts and adjust your strategies accordingly.

Overall, NFC business cards offer convenience, interactivity, and a modern approach to networking, allowing you to stand out from the crowd and make a memorable impression on potential contacts.

Managing Your Cards & Features

Our most frequently asked question on how to manage your NFC and Digital business cards.

Can I update my NFC business card after it's been printed?

Yes — this is one of the biggest advantages over paper cards. Your physical card stays the same, but the digital profile it links to can be updated instantly via the Kinect dashboard. Change your job title, phone number, email, social links, or headshot anytime — no reprinting required.

Can I reassign my NFC card to someone else?

Yes. If a team member leaves or changes role, you can reassign their Kinect Card to a new employee in seconds from the dashboard. This means you never need to reorder cards when your team changes — one card can serve multiple people over its lifetime.

What can I include on my Kinect Card profile?

Your profile can include your contact details, job title, company branding, phone numbers, email addresses, website, social media links, LinkedIn, portfolio, booking links, lead capture forms, and more. You can also add multiple profile pages and switch between them — useful for events, trade shows, or different roles.

Can I track who has tapped my card?

Kinect's analytics dashboard gives you real-time insights into taps, scans, profile views, contact downloads, lead form submissions, and social link clicks.

However, you will only capture a persons data if they submit their details to you via a lead form, ensuring GDPR compliance.

This helps you understand the ROI of your networking activity and see which events or campaigns are generating the most engagement.

Can I capture leads with my NFC business card?

Yes. Kinect Cards include a built-in lead capture form on your profile. When a prospect taps your card, they can fill in their details directly — no business card scanner needed. Leads are stored in your Kinect dashboard and can be exported or connected to your CRM.

Security & Sustainability

Are NFC business cards secure?

Yes. NFC chips only store a link to your profile — no sensitive personal data is ever held on the card itself. Kinect Card is certified to ISO 27001:2022, the internationally recognised standard for information security management. You control exactly what information is shared on your profile, and you can update or remove it at any time from the dashboard.

What happens if I lose my NFC business card?

If your card is lost, you can log into your Kinect dashboard and disable or update your profile immediately — so whoever finds the card won't be able to access your details. If you recover the card, simply re-enable your profile and it's back to normal.

Are NFC business cards eco-friendly?

Far more so than paper cards. Over 27 million paper business cards are printed every single day, the vast majority of which end up in the bin within a week. A single Kinect Card replaces thousands of paper cards over its lifetime. We also offer Eco Bamboo and Beech Wood card options for businesses that want to further reduce their environmental footprint.
